I actually yelled "Get off my Kool-Aid!" outloud in the LRC yesterday while reading the IDW forums about the new Angel Season 6 comics they are doing. People need to leave Spike alone and stop trying to pair him with Buffy anymore. It didn't work, will never work, and I am fully aware that is my own opinion and everyone else is entitled to their own. Not only that, but realistically Spike is an IDW property now, Buffy is a DarkHorse property. Face it, Buffy ain't coming to BlondieBear's rescue. Why should she? So she can give him the Cookie Dough speech? She would have to because she can't stay in the IDW comics forever (she has to return to her own horribly done S8 comics back at Dark Horse and IDW sure as hell isn't giving Spike to DarkHorse as the Spike comics are their biggest sellers at the moment).
Spike and Angel should just be left alone... to each other... in a villa in the South of France... or in Spike's ancestrial home of Kent in Northern England... They could have a pony named Emmie. And what's wrong with giving Spike a comic book girlfriend? Nothing as far as I can tell. If you don't like it, then you don't have to accept the comics as canon (even though they are because Joss said so but you don't have to accept that). I want Spike to be happy and that's not going to happen with Buffy. When has she ever made anyone happy? Unless you count that Ian (was that his name) from S1 from Never Kill a Boy on the First Date. I would accept Spangel, Spangelus, Spred/Spillyria, Speck, Spandrew, Sprusilla, Sparla, Sporne, Sponnor, Spunn, Spara, anything other than Spuffy... or anything involving the core four or Dawn... because that frightens me a little. You know what would be great? Spilliam. It's perfect. Then no one would argue over who should be with Spike. Just pair him with himself. That'd be wonderful.

ETA: The comics are continuations of the series. Not a retcon. Retcon would be going back to time periods before the final seasons and changing things that were shown on screen. Telling the stories of what happened after the NFA and Chosen are not retcon. Get it right if you are going to complain about it. This is directed towards no one on my friends list. It is directed towards idiots on the IDW forums.

Thank you. *hugs* Sorry that I've been getting my scorn on as of late, but I just tired of getting the "You once wanted Spuffy too!" when I never ever did except in the context of a "Sigh, if it makes him happy..." kind of way. People talking about they want Spuffy to "be respected" in any canon comic. When was the Spuffy relationship ever about respect? It was about self-hatred and self-denial. Why does Spuffy have to be mentioned at all? It seems to me the IDW comics have Spike and Angel moving along quite nicely, getting some closure at last. I mean, what's better closure than finding someone who can bring happiness and love back into your life after the person you have previous been in a relationship with tears out your still-unbeating heart, pisses on it, and sets it on fire? Spike/Beck is the best thing that can happen to him as far as I'm concerned. I'd rather have Spangel, but I'm never getting that in any physical form so I take what I can get. Sorry, I'm rambling. It's just that people on the forums ignore me sometimes, and everyone needs a good rant now and again. ^_^;;;

Dude, it's FICTION. Respected? I never understood that shit, really, I didn't and don't.

And if you are doing respect, how about respecting the character? ;)

I haven't seen the comics, btw. I should find some download place for them :D

From: [identity profile] fenderlove.livejournal.com

Hee. I could email you my scans of them. ^_~
The Buffy comics are wretchedly bad, but the Spike: Asylum comics are very good. There's this female character named Beck who, I believe, Brian Lynch is setting up to be Spike's new love interest in the continuation of the little 'verse created for Asylum and Shadow Puppets. The thing is that a lot of people are afraid that, since Brian Lynch is writing Angel S6, he will make Spike/Beck, which I have dubbed Speck (or Speckle 'cause it's cuter), and the Asylum-verse canon since Joss has said the Angel S6 will be canon as are DarkHorse's BTVS S8 comics are canon. There's no indication that Angel S6 will have anything to do with Spike: Asylum though. People are making mountains out of mole hills over fictional characters. And when has something being canon stopped people from fanwanking and creating AUs anyway?

Ohh - email away! txvoodoo - gmail :D

"And when has something being canon stopped people from fanwanking and creating AUs anyway?"

Been online 20 years and it hasn't happened yet ;)

LOL. So true, so true. The big peeve I have right now is that people seem to not understand what retcon means. The comics are continuations of the series. Not a retcon. Retcon would be going back to time periods before the final seasons and changing things that were shown on screen. I mean, get it right if you are going to complain about it.
I will send the scans straight away. ^_~

^_^ I just sent issue one. It's gonna say something like "YouSendIt Delivery Notification" or something like that.

From: [identity profile] fenderlove.livejournal.com

I sent issue four a few minutes ago and issue five is on the way. I hope you enjoy this series as much as I did. Let me know what you think after you're done reading it. ^_^

From: [identity profile] fenderlove.livejournal.com

Aww, you're welcome. Issue five just sent.
I'm getting a bit peeved by some people on the forum saying that comics don't give you emotional attachments to the characters. I mean, if it were impossible to get attached to comic book characters, would Superman or Spiderman or Batman have been around as long as they have? People are also saying that it's not the same without the actors, but I think it can be. They're characters for Pete's sake. What about all these comic book movies? X-Men, for example, didn't get a movie for thirty years after the comics began. They are still iconic and capable of a huge fanbase with emotional connections to its readers without actors having to portray the characters. *flails* Sorry, I'm rambling again!
Enjoy the comics! *hugs*

I enjoy reading them in the hardcover omnibus editions (the classics i mean). Scott buys individual ones.

I like them! I get frustrated with the shortness of them, which is why the big book compilations are good for me :)

AGAIN. THANK YOU.

From: [identity profile] fenderlove.livejournal.com

Oh yeah, waiting a whole month for another short 22 pages can be frustrating, but I'm too impatient to wait on the graphic novel forms. XD
I'm waiting on one of those really classy hardback editions of all the Gambit comics. That would be so awesome. I've got a pristine issue #2 of X-Men that I keep locked up tight in a fire-proof cabinet. I'm gonna sell it when I graduate from university in another year and a half and pay off my student loans. Haha! ^_^

Smart girl :D

Hubby bought a bunch of the X-men books - we found a huge sale at one point. I devoured them all!

The season 8 Buffy comics are just...bizarre. They've got slayers in spandex with laser guns and gigantic bosoms, a Watcher's Council headquarters that looks like fuckin' NASA, and Xander inexplicably cool and suave (think Jonathan's "Superstar" episode, except this is supposed to be real) with Wesley stubble and a Road Warrior leather outfit that Batman would envy. Oh, and sooperkewl eyepatch. It's a Joss Whedon wet dream.

From: [identity profile] txvoodoo.livejournal.com

This is what I was thinking as I started reading your comment:

"It sounds like Joss has finally given way and let his fantasies be written and illustrated."

Then I got to this: "It's a Joss Whedon wet dream." and just nodded fiercely ;)

From: [identity profile] sockmonkeyhere.livejournal.com

Bwaha! Oh, god, I'll bet he masturbated so hard while writing it that the ink in the comic books is three-quarters sploog.

From: [identity profile] txvoodoo.livejournal.com

That's....a visual I'll now have to strive to remove from my brain :D

Like Fred and Nina! ;D *squeals and runs away*

...Poor Brian Lynch; I'm not sure that he's familiar with 'shippy waters or how to navigate them. That boy's in for some rough seas.

From: [identity profile] fenderlove.livejournal.com

Don't run away! XD I like Spred; I really do. I just tired of characters coming back from the dead. I would love for Fred to come back and be with Spike. I'm still on the fence about Illyria though. I think that's why I like Beck, because she reminds me a little of Fred in her interactions with Spike. I'm all for Angel/Nina too. It seems healthy and stable and, dare I say it, normal. Well, as normal as a werewolf and a vampire can get.
I agree that Brian Lynch is getting the bad end of the bum rap stick. I mean, he doesn't like Buffy very much. Who cares? He doesn't have to write her or talk about her. I mean, he's been very delicate with Spuffy in Asylum and from what I've seen in Shadow Puppets. He didn't have Spike call her a bitch or anything like that. He just writes Spike saying that he's ready to move on. What's wrong with that view?

From: [identity profile] sockmonkeyhere.livejournal.com

Hee, even if I wasn't a big ol' Spred shipper, I'd want Fred resurrected because the idea of her and Illyria fighting for possession of her body is just so interesting to me -- it's a concept that could go so many places. I agree with you, though, that there does come a point where too many people being brought back from the dead can start to get silly.

From: [identity profile] fenderlove.livejournal.com

That would be a pretty cool idea. I would like to see it, but then it would kinda be like Fred never died spiritually, that a part of her was always still residing in Illyria. That'd be neat. Maybe I could draw it in comic form... then I could get a lovely job at IDW. XD

[livejournal.com profile] kats_meow actually wrote a wonderfully angsty Spike/Fred fic with that very concept -- here's an excerpt from it:

Fred shook her head once, like a reflex tick. “I kept waiting to go, ‘cause that’s what’s supposed to happen if you believe in heaven. Or hell. I knew I died, sort of. That part really hurt a lot.” Her face puckered as if she might cry, and then the emotion passed over quickly. “I stopped hurting, stopped feeling anything. Every minute, I thought, wow, so I’m gonna fly out of here. But I never did, Spike. I just stayed in there all shoved up behind…and I couldn’t move, Spike. I could hear and I could see and I yelled, but you couldn’t hear me, nobody could ever hear me.”

Hey, I'd buy an IDW-Fender comic! :D

On a completely unrelated note, I just discovered your tagline "Show us on the doll where they touched you." ROTFLMAO! XD

From: [identity profile] fenderlove.livejournal.com

Interesting fic. I like it. I'll have to read more.

LOL. Thanks about the tagline. I've watched Clerks the Animated Series too many times.
After next Thrusday (when my finals end), I'm gonna start work on my animated "fanfiction" along with possible working on my own post-NFA graphic novel. I've gotta keep myself busy. ^_~
