Today is February 2nd, 2006. 'Tis a very sad day for all punk rockers. This is the 27th anniversary of Sid Vicious's death. The dream died here, my friends. After 1979, the only progress punk made was with the Dead Kennedys and Henry Rollins, but what do most people associate with punk rock today? Blink 182, Green Day, Sum 41 (not that I don't love them, because I do), but probably most disturbingly, Avril Lavigne (sp?). She proclaimed herself the Sid Vicious of her generation, which clearly states that she either 1) has no clue what she is talking about or 2) is very stupid for wanting to be remembered in the way Sid will be. I love Sid with all my heart, but he was a drug addict who followed those around him all his life and was hardly a trendsetter or original thinker. That's what people remember him for, but his friends remember the sweet, loving kid that he was. That's how I see Sid, a victim. So to all of these Sid-wannabes, be yourself and go create your own thing 'cause living life in someone else's shadow isn't any way to live at all.

she was just trying to name drop so she would sound more "hardcore" or something. did anyone tell her that her music doesn't sound anything like the pistols? i mean to me it sounded like watered down rock. hey, she is messing up my precious rock n'roll! i think alot of people see how phoney she is. i don't keep up with "popular" music but i know i haven't heard anything out of her for a while.

Avril Lavigne!?! Oh yuck! What a dumb ass chick grr... *tips cup to Sid* To the legend. Speaking of history on Sid, have you ever seen Sid and Nancy? Great little movie that captures who and what Sid was.(To me anyway) It really is a shame he died the way he did. If he'd never met that bitch, I don't think he'd have gone down the road he did... but then again who am I to say there just wouldn't have been another Nancy in waiting to take her place *sigh*

Yeah, I thought Sid and Nancy really captured Sid's innocence (thank you, Mr. Oldman). The truth of their love was that Sid and Nancy both had mental problems (Nancy had them since birth) and tried to have a normal relationship. It didn't work out obviously, but I do think they loved each other, each in their own way. To quote Leee Black Childers, "Sid and Nancy were two nice people who went completely insane." Although, do I wish Sid had never met Nancy? Yes, a boatload of yes.
