I've got sad news yet again. This morning we had another large lightning storm. For the second time in two years, our phone blew up (it was the one electronic item we forgot to unplug), but none of our computers or such got ruined this time...

Normally, during storms, because the wind is pretty violent, we bring in the wreath from the front door, but since the bird's nest was in it and the mother robin had just returned and was chirping and settled, we decided it might be best not to disturb the wreath for fear of dislodging the nest. The wind whipped up so badly that the robin flew off, and we decided that we should try to bring the wreath in nest and all. Unfortunately, by the time I got to it, the nest had been blown to the ground, and the little egg was broken.

Just a little while ago, the robin came back. She flew around the window, hopped around the nest on the ground (the rain had washed the remains of the egg away), and then sat on the railing of our stoop, looking at the window where the wreath had been. She flew off again, and now she's back yet again. She's sitting on the door knob, chirping. It sounds heartbreaking. I know it's just a bird, but I feel awful. Why did it have to storm today?

Aww, now I want to bring cinder blocks to your front porch and build a wind-blocking igloo thingy around the nest! Stupid storms. (Although we need the rain.)

We found a miracle second egg trapped in the wreath! We put it back in the nest and then put the nest in the wreath 'cause we just didn't know where else to put it so that the mother bird would know where it was. She came back and has been sitting on the nest for a few days! I hope the weather holds out!

Aww, that's wonderful! I saw in your later entries that the father bird has joined her. Best of luck to the whole feathered family!
