Calling all Battlestar Galactica fans: Can someone tell me what supposed happened pre-series with that show? Like, I watched Caprica, so I'm curious as to what the events are between Caprica and BSG?

There was the first cylon war, in which the cylons rebelled and the fought against the humans, who scaled back on technology to be less vulnerable to hacking by the technically superior cylons.

At some point the cylons just ended the war and pretty much disappeared until they come back to destroy the 12 colonies in the beginning of BSG.

So are the Cylons still monotheistic? Are there humans on the Cylons side? Or have the Cylons just decided they don't need any humans (except for... breeding purposes, I've heard)?

The cylons are still monotheist, yes. There are not really humans on the cylon side, but they learned how to make humanlooking cylons which can virtually not be distinguished from the real thing. The cylons have pretty much decided they don't need humans but several fractions with different opinions on that topic develop among them.

The problem with BSG is that the end is just terrible. They set up several interesting mysteries about the origin of the skinjobs etc. but obviously they couldn't think of a cool resolution, so everything was explained by a superlame deus ex machina. But the series is still worth watching for the characters even if the plot sadly crashes and burns.

Thanks! It seems that Caprica implies that the skinjobs all come from Zoe-R. Caprica endly badly too, mostly because they got cancelled and had to wrap everything up so quickly. It seemed like the technology for the cyber-skin just appeared magically though it probably took months of trial and error or longer. Then there was the whole thing with pink angels or something.

I'm thinking about watching BSG, but I've always had reservations about it, but since I like Caprica, I'd like to give it a try. :D

Wish they would come from Zoe, the BSG explanation is way more stupid. I thought the Caprica ending was comparatively decent, rushed yes. But they never had the time to develop the storylines that ruined BSG for me, so I thought it was pretty conclusive. Angel-Zoe only had a few appearances and thank god, they just ignored that plot for the ending, wish they had done that on BSG.

It's still an awesome show, and especially during the first two seasons it's probably one of the best sci fi shows ever. Just don't expect the plot to work. It'll save you a lot of grieve. Though I know many fans who actually liked the ending, so even that (and for me it sets standards for shitty endings) is debatable.

I would but good LORD I have forgotten more than I'd like to with that show. All I know is war and then nothing then SURPRISE CYLONS.

LOL. Nothing's more uncomfortable than SURPRISE CYLONS... except of course SURPRISE MONOTHEIST BOMBINGS. Damn it, Clarice. XD
