The levy has burst in our town, and the lake has overrun its banks. We have no water to use in our homes, and probably won't have any until Wednesday. Every store in town is out of bottled water. I may have to brush my teeth with Coca-Cola. The phone lines are all wonky. A lot of transformers have been blowing around the neighbour, and I'm scared we might also soon be without power. I've watched a beautiful building that I love all but be destroyed by the flood. I am not in the mood to be polite for the next few days, so I thought I post a warning lest someone think that I am trying to metaphorically beat them to death with a shovel.

Yikes! That's really not good!

I had no idea you were in one of the areas getting flooded. Hopefully things will get back to normal quickly and I'll keep my fingers crossed that you don't lose power.

I think we're far enough away from the lake to be out of too much danger. I feel so terrible for all the people living around it though. They had to be evacuated last night. O_o;;;

It's so freaky that it all happened so quickly. That's one heck of a lot of rain for one weekend.

Yes, I mean, our area usually gets a lot of rain, thunderstorms, and tornadoes, but never so much over like three days. They said on the news that this was the second most rain that Nashville has had ever.

(((Hugs)))

From having trekked in places where you can't drink or even inhale the water vapour, you don't need water to brush your teeth. It sounds gross, but spit on the bristles, apply toothpaste and brush normally. Then suck the froth off the brush and spit down the sink. Not ideal but way better than tooth decay from Coke.

While you've got power, it might be a good idea to put out as many pots and pans as possible out to collect rainwater, then boil it thorougly. Again not ideal but it should then be at least drinkable. Buckets of rainwater can also be used to flush the loo.

Again speaking from personal experience of being mid shower when the water went out in the middle of nowhere in South America, rainwater lathers shampoo and washes it out well enough too.

I'm sure you've already done it but, collecting up and plastic bagging any and all important documents and sentimental irreplaceables and moving them upstairs but away from the roof in case of flooding from outside or above might be a good call. They'd also be to hand in case of an emergency evacuation.

The ladies at my mom's office were lugging in buckets of water to flush the toilets today. XD

According to the radio, the water, if it gets turned on late tomorrow or Wednesday, will still have to be boiled because the system's been contaminated with river and ground water. I'm just glad that our roads are mostly clear. It's so awful in Nashville right now, people are stuck in the offices downtown since yesterday. :(

I was gonna tell you to wait for the release of issue #34 to break out the Cinco de Mayo tequila, but you sound like you need it now. (And how thoughtful was it of Scott Allie to release the conclusion of the cracktastic Twilight arc on a day when tequila would be so readily available?! Maybe he knew strong spirits was going to be necessary to swallow his ridiculous plot!)

Keeping you and yours in my thoughts and prayers! Stay safe, and stay sane!

Sadly I am allergic to alcohol except for certain wines. I'm not the most unnatural O'Irish person ever. XD

Writing that "My Spike" thing helped me stay sane, so I'm good... except for the fact that our air conditioner has broken again (possibly flooded) and it's hot as hell in our house. XD

I'm so sorry to hear about this! I hope things are getting back to normal now, and am glad you're all right... *sends hugs and waterproof pants for Spike*

All skinny and wet, with big eyes and a stroppy expression? You'll have to dry him off and get him changed! Then some warm milk and blood to settle him down.

You should definitely write that. Poor little woobie that Spike is. XD
