Well, just as I thought it would be- a pointless end to a pointless story.
Under the cut is a voice clip as well as a transcription for those of you who don't want to hear my slightly sinus-y voice.
Warning for foul language in my squeaky voice. XD
So, Buffy's THE Slayer, and she's going to learn from her mistakes this time, she promises! Yeah right. This is just faux-epiphany #198. If she gets two more, she'll win a toaster. She's got nothing to offer anyone, but she's going to TRY. Mmmhmm, she'll try all right, and the next time something that requires her to make self-reflecting decisions comes along she'll try everyone right to HELL with her foolishness.
In a way, I do almost feel sorry for Angel since now he's literally lost his mind, and the thought of it really reminds me of Birthday in which Cordelia finds the alternate reality with Angel being near insane from the visions. I'm not really sorry for Angel though since he got himself into the mess himself. I guess I still must have an ounce of emotion for him in my cold, black heart since the one murder that will colour his character is the one he wouldn't have committed and was possessed at the time. Seriously, if we don't hold Buffy responsible for her actions in Normal Again (which... we probably really should since she was making calculated decisions about her actions... even if those decisions were part of a delusion that she knew was a delusion and is therefore not as crazy as her friends imagine her to be), then Angel gets some release from the blame for Giles's death... but not all of the blame. No, he gets to keep some of it for being an idiot and listening to a talking dog. He also gets the full brunt of the blame for anything he did prior to getting possessed. Oh yeah, those Slayer deaths are all on him.
Giles is put in the ground with little fanfare. He left all his possessions to Faith in his will because Buffy "will always have the strength to survive" or some shit. Look, I could understand giving Faith the lion's share including the property because she's been poor her whole life, never been able to put down roots, and it's nice that he's giving her that chance, but Buffy... *sigh* Buffy has the earning capacity of an organ-grinding monkey. She's going to be working menial jobs for the rest of her life, killing her body in her Slayer duties. Strength to survive may feed the spirit but it does not feed the stomach. Jesus Christ. Of course, the fact that Buffy goes to Faith to find out WHY Giles didn't leave her anything makes me want to spit in her face. I don't know how the scene plays out exactly, but if it plays out like that then bad show, Buffy.
Once again, it's okay for Spike to give rousing speeches of confidence-boosting power, but it's not okay for him to come inside a domicile. He is always, ALWAYS, relegated to the Other, the Outsider, the Cellar Dweller, He Who Hangs Out in Cemeteries, and the fact that he's placed in that position by a person who should know how that feels and should have a damned ounce of empathy for him is pretty pathetic.
Also, Dawn's messed up in the head, but Buffy deserves her taunting.
So... everyone just "forgets" about the whole vampires and Slayers thing. Wow, guess that shows what Joss really thinks of his audience's intelligence.
Bravo, Whedon, for making the most pointless drivel I've ever read, and I've read Tarot: Witch of the Black Rose ("Your vagina is haunted!!!"). You made an epic, all right... an EPICALLY bad comic. I'm sure that there are those who are going to attach deep meanings to what happened, show the tendrils of connectivity to the show, and how everything is wonderful, but I can't do that. Good for those people if they can 'cause I think liking this comic takes some tenacity and determination that I just do not have. I see Buffy having effected nothing except to ruin hundreds of lives, that the Jossverse is a horrible place for women but especially empowered women (we knew that already from the show, though), and she can't even make positive change in her own life. She's been rendered completely ineffectual except in the harm she causes. And what does it all end with? Buffy hopping right back on her Superiority Train and riding it all the way to Faux-Epiphany Town, where nothing changes and winged magical flying monkeys come flying out of Joss Whedon's ass.
Fuck!!1!!!
What a terrible waste of time, energy, and paper. The trees! They weep.
