Buffy has a horrific dream about a giant red pregnancy metaphor egg (the "Seed of Wonder") in a cave setting way back in issues before Fender stopped purchasing the books... or was she really dreaming about the giant ruby from the "Cave of Wonders" from Disney's Aladdin? You decide.

To paraphrase the Genie, "Joss, Joss, he's our man! If he can't do it- GREAT!"

I posted similar comments on the IDW board.

This issue says to me that Buffy's a stone cold heartless bitca who needs to get her head out of her "heart" and focus on the fact that she's got nothing but Angel's word that the deaths of 205 of her Slayers-in-Arms were necessary and excusable. It's not about "shipping;" it's about responsibility to those that she is fighting with and for by making sound judgements and decisions to the best of her ability not based on "Oh, darling, I want to go with you, but you don't have a cool spaceship, but I'd much rather have your hunky manhood inside me while my friends are dying horrible deaths because that's perfection! It's the bestest besty best day of my whole frickin' pointless life!" If this is who Buffy really is- a taker and a user- then I guess the real message of the 'verse is that there are no heroes, just self-serving a**holes with death-wishes. And I love Angel, but if this is the best he can offer to "help," then Willow should have left him a frog and put him in a jar with no air-holes... unless he's still a vampire... and I guess a vampire frog wouldn't need air-holes... Screw it, just let Spike and Angel skip off to an alternate dimension and bang each other senseless, let the cookie dough burn to a cinder, and we'll all go home happy.

Dude, like I said before, there is nothing that can save this shit because it's just absurd.

I just hate the fact that Whedon has taken one of his greatest creations and turned it into such shit! How depressing!

I think that "Invention" was right- Buffy doesn't have the ability to love, not in ways that we mere mortals would considered normal at any rate. Her love is self-destructive and perverse (and not the fun sort), if this is what Whedon is telling us is truly how she's supposed to be. That's very sad.

There's a part of me that feels very "I knew it was going to be this bad!" and another part of me that is just horrified by just HOW MUCH it is bad. It's badder than bad. It makes no sense at all.

Sounds like a case of 'bad writer defensiveness' to me:

'No, you don't get it. My character isn't coming off like a selfish, cold, uncaring bitch because I'm writing her ineffectively. I'm doing it on purpose. You're just not Sophisticated enough to understand why.'
