Because I make my own fun, I present "James Marsters and the Great Evolution of Spuffy in His Mind":

2001-2004, aka "The Bad Boyfriend Phase": Spike is a bad boyfriend. He doesn't deserve Buffy's love, and any woman that likes Spike needs to be protected because she will obviously wind up in an abusive relationship. Oh, the humanity!!1!

2005-2006, aka "The Protective Phase": Spike is too good for Buffy! She didn't understand him!

2007-2009, aka "The Understanding Phase": Spike and Buffy were in an equally unhealthy relationship and had a lot of issues. Maybe it could have worked out under different circumstances, but in James's mind there's a little tiny Spike and a little tiny Drusilla and they are prom king and queen of little tiny Sunnyhell.

2010, aka "Coming Full Circle": Spike is a bad, abusive boyfriend. Angel is a pillar of goodness and light, and Buffy deserves a man like him. Ooooooh, subversiveness.

God, James is like a never-ending source of entertainment! Watching him react to the surly rumblings made me all a-twitter with giggles... It's like watching Caesar waiting for the knives to come rushing out Ides of March style. He's so cute... and subversive. XD

Angel is a pillar of goodness and light? Huh?!?!?!?!?

Okay, he didn't exactly say that, but he did say that Buffy "deserved to be with" Angel. I'm not a Spuffy, but I don't see Angel as a great prize. I'd rather Spike and Angel get together though. XD

Oh! Oh! Who gets to tell him that Angel has murdered hundreds of Slayerettes in Season 8??

He still is under the die-hard belief that Spike hasn't shown up at all in S8. He very assuredly stated that if Joss wrote it then Spike would not appear... Though I guess he's right in that his actual first appearance was written by Meltzer, but Joss has to complete it, I think. With this story, who knows? XD

I think James has been in a very "wuv... twu wuv... is wot bwings us togevver today" mood since Valentine's Day, and yet this is the man who thinks that Romeo and Juliet are stupid kids yet when it's a two hundred year old vampire and a sixteen year old girl, it's magic! I think he's being listening to his Twilight-obsessed niece too much. LOL.

Aw, bless him. Consistency thy name just isn't Jamses. :D

We can probably track his romantic life by his position on Spike, he's all lovey and romantic right now (personally I agree that Buffy and Angel should be together but that's more to do with their appalling history in the romance arena and I think they actually deserve each other not because of any deep twu luv nonsense. I might pair Spike and Angel but I suspect my Angel is a little bit deeper than the actual character and able to learn from his mistakes. Of course so is Spike).

Now his kids are getting close to dating age he probably wants them to be with nice normal people and stay away from the bad boys and girls. So he's trying to encourage their interest in earnest hardworking types who don't wear lots of leather and dye their hair.

I couldn't agree more! *mushes Spike and Fred together and shoves them in a time machine and off into the AU dimension* XD

I'd love to ask him for specifics regarding the brief time -- late Summer 2003 -- that he thought Fred and Spike were going to be a couple. Did he think that Spike deserved Fred, and/or that Fred deserved Spike, and why?

(Should I ask him that on his monthly Q&A, do you think? Do people often ask him questions about Spike/Buffy, Spike/Dru, etc., there? If I do post him that question, should I explain that Amy Acker mentioned it on an AtS DVD interview?)

I'm "Anonymous", BTW. For some reason LJ keeps logging me out without telling me. O__O

If I remember correctly, he said that because the writers were sticking Spike and Fred together so much and that there was some flirty-banterness that he thought that Spike and Fred would have been made a couple at some point, but that they wound up throwing the Fresley shippers a bone after so many years of waiting when they realized that there was no hope of getting a 6th season.

I think you could ask, but have in mind that questions don't get answered for years (questions Salchli sent in two years ago are just now being answered). I think that mentioning Amy would be a good lead-in to a question, go with that! :D He's answered shipping type questions before, so I think you could give it a shot.

Did Amy say she was looking forward to some Spred action? XD

Hee, I dunno. Oh dear, I may have to send her a Q&A question, too. XD

Haha! Yes, that's a good idea! There's those cute pics of her hugging James while he was in his Spike get-up. It was like they both went *squee-squish* XD

How did I miss this amusing and insightful post? I thought we were friends. I'm going to friend you now.
Hope that's okay.

Yay! :D

Enjoy the artwork! And the horrible fanfiction! And any posts that include James, talk of James, why I want to watch Joss fall into a big pile of elephant poo while I laugh a villainous laugh, art history, my unemployment woes, and more James and art of James. XD
