And you are right on about individual "eye and mind filters" that probably more than anything influence the interpretations and elements that were significant to the viewers and the current readers.

Just look at what is happening with all the "shippers" discussions. I can't help but think that age and life experiences were a huge influence on how people interpreted and make judgments on the Buffy-Angel TV era relationship. Where some fans make the "love and romance" the prime area of significance, other fans focused on very different aspects of that story.

Your info on the history of manga and comic books was very informative - for many of the readers, like myself, who are not familiar with the fluid nature of this writing and film style, it has been difficult to make the transition to the comic books. Your example of the cemetery scene between Buffy and Angel is a great example.
