Apron Strings :: a Spike drabble.
Title: Apron Strings

Rating: PG. Worksafe.
Summary: What if things had gone wholly different for William in the first few days after his turning?
Apron Strings
Pulling off to the shoulder of the road, William stared at the cheerfully painted sign that read "Welcome to Sunnydale! Enjoy your stay!" While the Desoto idled, he turned to the woman in the passenger seat. She was his all, his everything, the one who was always there for him.
"What do you think? Doesn't the town seem quaint?" he asked.
She nodded approvingly and reached over to gently remove a smudge of blood from the corner of his mouth- a remanent of their most recent meal- with the pad of her thumb, "It looks lovely, darling."
"It might even be a place we could stay permanently," William said with a hopeful smile, leaning into her caress.
"First, we have to make sure you get your third Slayer, and then we'll worry about settling down," she replied.
William felt a certain thrill at the promise of being allowed yet another Slayer. He glanced at his passenger's long coat, a trophy from his last, her curling blonde hair spilling over her shoulders and onto the black leather, and he felt a wave of pride wash over him.
A rise of thumping and screeching from the boot of the car drew their attention.
Sighing, she responded to the noises, "Drusilla, if you do not settle down, I will latch you to the undercarriage for the remainder of the ride."
William, ever the peacemaker for the past century, tried to make reassurances, "She'll settle down now that we've found our new home, Mother."
Anne would have rather thrown the mad vampiress on the side of the highway ages ago; however, she couldn't deny her son his only playmate. She spoiled him, but what mother doesn't dote on and indulge her only child?
As William drove through the idyllic suburbs, Anne began real estate shopping for their new residence, something with a garden and few neighbours. Maybe they would be able to stay here for a while after William had dispatched the Slayer. Sunnydale seemed like a nice place to raise a family.
Home, sweet home.

I'd really like to see how this plays out...will that pesky Slayer cut those strings for good? Will his definition of "effulgent" get shaken up?
Oh, the bunnies, they are multiplying!

*eg* What a fabulous ending. I love the idea of Anne shopping for real estate! (In her own homicidal fashion.)
