My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
It's no secret that I hate updating 70s/80s cartoon characters . From Rainbow Brite to Strawberry Shortcake to Care Bears to My Little Ponies, toy companies have been updating their designs like mad in the past decade. I even made a post with image comparisons to express my rage a while back. My Little Ponies have definitely seen some bad days and some badder days. However, their latest incarnation- MLP: Friendship is Magic- is actually adorable. It's obviously made by people who enjoyed the original 80s cartoons and movies. Plus, they have somehow managed to make a toy/TV series that not only appeals to females but to males as well. Believe it or not, Hasbro finally bridged the gender gap with a show... probably completely by accident. MLPs were created to be the "girl" toys to the "boy" toys to the Transformers in the 80s. I played with both, but forever I was reminded that MLPs were only "girl" toys. Now, there are BRONIES (portmanteau of "bro" and "ponies"), male fans of MLP: FIM usually between the ages of 16-32.
The creators of the show are Internet junkies and nerds. An example, in the original MLP show in the 80s, there was a baby dragon named Spike (he was voiced by the same guy who did Buster Bunny and the Crypt Keeper's voices). In the new show, Spike has been included in the cast again... only now he sometimes gets tormented by a male baby bunny named Angel. XD Now, it's unconfirmed if this was done because of vampiric Spike and Angel, but I like to think that it was. :D
Here's a confirmed example. This is Doctor Whooves. That is literally one of his official names. He has spiky David Tennant hair and his "cutie mark" is a timey wimey hourglass.

Here is a fan animation of Dr. Whooves giving a message to Martha about pears.
Another fan animation: Allons-y!

The shows' actually really well made... can't even express how impressive that animation is for flash. It's very very high quality tv animation. a LOT of love and care was put into that show.

I got hooked on the show right at ep 4. the first three eps were "eh, its pretty good.. .nothing special"... but ep 4 made me laugh so hard and just about every ep after that was just so funny XD I seriously think its one of the best TV animations since the 90s

Completely agree! I wish I actually had the HUB channel to watch it, but at least all the episodes seem to be on YouTube! :D
I think that the only things I've animated in Flash have been simple website stuffs, so I fear your roommate's possible Flash-Wizard proboscis. XD

Are you talking about this fanart?
Buffy is totally Rarity... and I think Riley might be Big Mackintosh. I don't know who Spike and Angel would be if they were ponies. Drusilla might be Pinkie Pie. XD
