Am I Old? XD
On Facebook, my cousin's ten year old daughter asked for advice for things to do during the summer. I suggested doing some creative writing or possibly going on a nature walk and documenting/sketching the various flora and fauna she found... Cue a deluge of comments from her and her ten year old friends calling me "stupd," "no kol," and "boreing."
*sigh* I am certain that I was not obnoxious like that as a child... and I definitely had much better spelling than them.

You were suggesting things that can sound a lot like homework unless you're into them. My kid is very resistant to "educational creativity" as a time filler. Except when she isn't. This summer has been a whirlwind of making stuff: dresses, costume Homestuck horns, etc. But, she's 15, not 10. And it was her idea.
Obviously, your cousin's kid should be doing a summer intensive in Buffy or Doctor Who or something. Or some spelling bee documentaries. Sneaky edutainment, that's the summertime ticket.

Duh! What did you expected? You suggested school assignments.
At 10 I was thinking in the same terms, I didn't had the guts to tell it in the face to grown ups.

I'd defriend the insulting little gits, relatives or not. But I'm cruel that way.
