Spoiler for the New Spike Series.

Straight from the horse's mouth, via Buffyfest Blog's interview with Brian Lynch at NYComic Con.

A spoiler for the Spike series that BL wrote recently. This is the opening scene of the Spike series. Apparently, the day after everything went back to normal in L.A., lots of screenwriters clamored to the studios pitching movie ideas about everyone being sucked into hell. In the Spike series, Spike goes to see one of the movies that got made. It's called "Last Angel in Hell" and it's a Jerry Bruckheimer-esque flick with Nick Cage as Angel and since they couldn't make Gunn the bad guy (something about you can't make the black guy the bad guy anymore), so they made him the wacky sidekick played by Hurly from Lost? The studio execs decided Angel needed a love interest in the movie so they made Spike a woman so that s/he could be the love interest... and Betta George is a dog in the movie. The real Angel and Spike go to see the movie the day it comes out, not realizing that the other would be there, so it's very awkward for them to be seeing Nick Cage!Angel and blonde girl!Spike kissing on screen. Spike gets a little pissy that "This is what people will remember me as!" because Hollywood decided to Hollywoodize the story to make money off of it.

If you want to read the rest of my transcript of the interview, please visit the ATF thread in the Comic Section at CDS.

Personally the more it looks like silly fanfic, the better.
Good luck to B.Lynch playing with his shiny toy. If it makes some fans happy, good for them.:)
Edited : I didn't mean to be offensive towards those who enjoy the comics, but if people don't take it seriously it is less upsetting for me in a way( not sure it makes sense )

Did I write the spoilers in a way that makes people think Spike gets turned into a girl for real? I keep reading the "it sounds like fanfic" line. Sorry, but I have to ask because I'm reading things elsewhere that makes me worried.

LOl, fanfic is never quite as crack as the show was anyway. if that had been an episode it'd be my favourite ever. Smile Time came close :D

I need some fandom crack right about now. I am not a Spuffy and yet I somehow always manage to defend it, and then people point and mock me and call me a Spuffy, and I don't want to argue with them because nothing will be solved! And none of this probably makes any sense in the slightest because it's all out of context, but I'm having a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day... and it's 3AM! *flops over in the floor* Why must everything I love be stomped upon! Spike's peen is not a carousel pony for everyone to just jump on!

LOL! It's *because it's 3am*

ARGH! How can a man think so lowly of his own sex as to believe that a man would agree to have sex with anything that moved even if that thing had eight arms?! I've known some skanky guys, but I've known good guys too. Brian Lynch is trying to rip the still beating heart from my chest and feast upon it. Feast, I tell you!

[identity profile] bendy1.livejournal.com 2009-02-12 09:10 am (UTC)(link)
Depends what the eight arms are trying to do!

Sounds like he's writing hi own porny fantasy though and not bothering much with characterisation :(

He done so well! Really! I've loved most of what he's written, really enjoyed it, but with one felled swoop, he makes me regret following the comics at all! I'm actually beginning to miss Peter David's old Spike comics. Hell, I miss the comic James himself wrote.

I know James complains about how the artists on the comic he wrote didn't "get" what he was trying to write- a dark comedy romance. Maybe I should take the script and draw it proper. Then I can give it to him at D*C this year. If I keep giving him homemade comics, he's going to think I'm a one note kind of girl... I want him to think that I have many notes, like more than a Ramones tune. :D

Bless him, he totally hated them didn't he. Hee. His mutterings at cons were hilarious.

He was being so cute, defending Juliet Landau's honour because the artist had drawn her so poorly. Honestly, I think he was more upset that they drew him looking like an 80 year old man. I saw the artwork that they had shown to him as a proposal for the comic that he approved- it was very lovely, but it looked nothing like what was in the finished comic. Sad for that too. I should draw him his "vision!" I'll make a copy for Juliet too. Maybe I should make something for Gareth Thingie. He got a bear last year that made him happy. :D

Did I write the spoilers in a way that makes people think Spike gets turned into a girl for real? Maybe not for 'real' but it does sound like a bit lame plot device to me. But if it's Lynch 's fantasy, why not ? *shrugs*I really don't know and I never followed the storyline in the comics so I have no knowledge of what have been going on before that for Spike.

[identity profile] fenderlove.livejournal.com 2009-02-12 10:40 am (UTC)(link)
I think that's the point, it being a lame plot device. It's supposed to sound like something lame that Hollywood movie producers would do (like when they add characters and romance to historical dramas to make them more marketable)- that's why it's funny. It's also funny to imagine Spike and Angel having to sit in a theatre watching Nick Cage!Angel and Keira Knightly!Spike make out and being all uncomfortable and shifty in their chairs. Well, that's what I imagine anyway. I also imagine Spike nearly choking on a JuJuBee when he finds out he's been written as a girl. XD I find it funny at least.
